From the judges: This is a great repository of information about this institution for internal and external audiences. A lot of thought was put into the redesigned newsletter and digital strategy. The new design better matches the Source website. The writing is engaging and the topics interesting. The CSU team clearly knows how to tell a story digitally. Well done!

Title of Entry: Improving the ‘SOURCE’ of information at Colorado State University
About this Entry: In 2014, the Colorado State University Division of External Relations (now University Communications) reimagined its main news and information site, SOURCE, and its accompanying twice-weekly email news digest. While the site expanded and evolved, the newsletter remained static. This year we gave it a new look with more flexibility in design and layout that meets the needs of the growing number of our readers who now access it on their mobile devices. We also eliminated the rigid format that required a set number of stories for each edition, so we can showcase our best content, and developed new ways to feature stories with varying importance and visual assets. We added a direct link to the SOURCE home page, so readers could browse all the news that couldn’t fit in the email that day. To complete the upgrade, we improved the usability of the back end of SOURCE to make assembling the newsletter more efficient.
